Conservation-related Volunteer Opportunities
Help at Festivals and Events Around
Town
We are always in need of people who can help
at festivals and events around town. Volunteers set up displays and
man our table. This is an important way to reach out to the
community.

What YOU can do to help the IBA (Important Bird Areas)
program!
Ways you can
help:
Enter data in
eBird – it would be great if you would enter ALL your bird
sightings, but please at least consider entering data for IBAs.
Conduct a
standardized bird census at an IBA. We need data on all of
our sites! Please contact Charlie Muise for details.
Help enter the
data of other people – Most of us know an active bird
watcher who does not have time or internet access to enter all of
their data. There are also a lot of older folks who have many years’
worth of important data in notebooks somewhere. Offer to enter data
for someone!
Help out at, or
even organize a volunteer Conservation Activity – From
pulling invasive exotic plants, to maintaining an IBA kiosk, to
collecting warm season grass seeds, our IBAs need lots of help. If
you have a talent or interest, Charlie can use your help!
Help fund our
efforts. We are a 501(c)(3), so donations are tax
deductible to the extent allowed by law. Help find and introduce
Charlie to potential donors. Help him write grants
Help build and
erect a kiosk at an IBA or lead a bird trip to introduce
people to your favorite IBA
If you are
interested in helping, please contact Charlie Muise 678-967-9924,
cmmbirds@yahoo.com.

Publicity for Upcoming Field Trips
We need
publicity for these trips, in newspapers, bird and nature stores,
bulletin boards, etc.-- anywhere where people interested in bird
walks might see them. We need volunteers to coordinate with members
of the Field Trip Committee to publicize upcoming trips. Interested
in this fun and vital work? Contact Field Trip Committee Members
Sylvia Chandler, e-mail
sg422@bellsouth.net for publicity other than
newspapers and Pam Higginbotham, e-mail
phigginb@comcast.net
for newspaper publicity.
Assist on Field Trips
Attend walks (schedule)
and assist the leader with membership brochures, checklists, and
submission of birds seen to Stan Chapman and to Ebird. If this is up
your alley, a) e-mail Stan at
stancha@aol.com to let him know which walk
you’ll attend; b) call Atlanta Audubon to get membership brochures
and checklists for distribution; c) give a brief (1-2 minute) talk
to attendees about membership in AAS; d) keep track of the bird
species seen during the walk and send the list Stan, and e) enter
the birds seen on eBirds.
Like to go on bird walks?
Would you like
to lead a bird walk with kids at one of the summer day camps in the
metro area where AAS LEARNING ABOUT BIRDS is providing training and
materials so children can learn to identify Atlanta's summer birds?
No experience necessary. Reply to Marcia at
marcia.klenbort@comcast.net.
